Jurisdiction

Authority to Apprehend
Rule 302(b)(1) and UCMJ, Article 7(b)
Authority to Administer Oaths to suspects, witnesses and victims
UCMJ Article 136(b)(4), Article 136(b)(6) - (Officers, NCO's, on-duty SF, or SF augmentation all carry this responsibility).
Subject Matter Jurisdiction
jurisdiction over an offense that is not prohibited by federal criminal code or any state or local code. (exclusively military in nature)
Personal Jurisdiction
offender or one accused is subject to the UCMJ at the time of the offense and at the time of trial. (applies to military)
Types of Legislative Jurisdiction
Exclusive, Concurrent, Reciprocal, and Proprietary Jurisdiction
Exclusive Jurisdiction
federal govt. has sole authority to enforce law on installation.
Concurrent Jurisdiction
federal and state governments retain authority and can prosecute offenses.
Reciprocal Jurisdiction
Power of all four branches of DoD, to resolve a case through courts martial over all persons under Article 2 of the UCMJ
Proprietary Jurisdiction
U.S. has same rights as property owner. Only federal laws that can be cited are those offenses that are exclusively federal in nature (UCMJ)

What do you do before placing a subject in your SF vehicle?
• Search individual, handcuff subject, always use installed seatbelts, never transport with an MWD.
What do you notify BDOC of when transporting a subject?
Departure Vehicle, Location, Time, Starting odometer reading, Ending odometer reading, time and location.
Why do you search an individual again when arriving at destination?
Incase suspect picked up anything that was left in the backseat.
What do you do when transporting an individual of the opposite sex?
Ensure another SF member is present in vehicle.
Transporting Offenders
• If feasible, use SF vehicle with divider • Never transport an individual alone • If transporting without divider, have partner ride in back with them.
Hearing Protection
SF should wear _________ to limit noise exposure. (It is provided at no cost to SF member).
Frostbite
occurs when the temperature is at or near freezing or colder.
Heat acclimation takes how many days?
3-5 days.
hygiene importance
SF must bathe frequently, keep skin dry & wear proper clothing in accordance with weather.
Maintain a 10ft safety distance from what?
MWD's on a leash. DO NOT pet or handle without approval from handler.
Combat Arms Safety
Wear all PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) you are instructed, when at range firing. Follow all instructions.
Blood Borne Pathogen (BBP)
infection that is present in human blood and can cause disease in humans.
Other Potentially Infectious Materials (OPIM's)
including semen, vaginal secretions, cerebrospinal fluid, synovial fluid, pleural fluid, amniotic fluid, or body fluid that is visibly contaminated with blood
Fluids that are not expected to be infectious:
- Urine, feces, vomit, tears, sweat, spit, and nasal secretions.
Ways OPIM's are introduced to the blood stream:
Needle stick injury, open cuts, wounds, mucous membranes (eyes, mouth and/or nose).

Parental exposure, sexual contact, infected woman
