What is CUI Specified?
The subset of CUI in which the authorizing law, regulation, or government-wide policy contains specific handling controls that it requires or permits agencies to use.
Why this answer
This is the regulation's own definition, minus its last clause: the specified controls differ from CUI Basic, and they are not always stricter. The other choices in the course version describe CUI Basic (no specific controls set by the authority) and personnel or contracting paperwork (SF 86C entries, the DD Form 254), none of which is a CUI category.
VERIFIED AGAINST THE OFFICIAL SOURCE
“CUI Specified is the subset of CUI in which the authorizing law, regulation, or Government-wide policy contains specific handling controls that it requires or permits agencies to use that differ from those for CUI Basic. The CUI Registry indicates which laws, regulations, and Government-wide policies include such specific requirements. CUI Specified controls may be more stringent than, or may simply differ from, those required by CUI Basic”
